The Change In My Decorating Style

I thought it would be fun to show how much the style of my breakfast area has changed since we built the house almost 7 years ago.
We moved in during the Fall, which is my favorite season.  The wall color was called "autumn pumpkin".  While I was in the paint decision making process, Pottery Barn sent out their catalog with the same wall color and black cabinet combination.  That pretty much sealed the deal in my mind.  But as time went on, I started loving the calming greys and whites, and leaning more towards a glamorous look instead of a rustic look.  Eventually  I began to cringe every time I looked at the wall color.
The change in the style was fairly easy.  The biggest style changes were the wall color and light fixture.  I've listed the sources below:
Walls are painted Sherwin Williams Perfect Greige.
The table is from Pottery Barn and has removable end pieces. I painted it ASCP Old White.
End chairs  - Ballard Designs
Pillows in chairs -
Bench - yard sale find at $15
Rug - Décor Steals
Chandelier -
Chalkboard Canvas - TJ Maxx or Marshalls (I can't remember which one)
Fork and Spoon - Hobby Lobby
Blinds - Lowe's
So how often does your style change?

Vintage Lockers

I was so excited to find these lockers at the Nashville Flea Market this month.  I went in search of something special to go on this wall. I was thinking maybe a small writing table, or book case, or even a sign.  I needed something that wasn't going to take up much room in depth.  I walked up from the back side of these just as the vendor was writing out the price tag Sunday morning.   Of course I bought them before he could even put the price tag on.  I thought everything about this piece was just perfect.  I just cleaned them up and used some "Goof Off" to remove the residue from many stickers.
Pam and I each got one of these wreaths with our last initial.

This was a great trip to the flea market!  I hit my spending limit (and the size limit for Pam's car) within 15 minutes of getting there :)

Room Makeover In Progress

This is a peek of  my porch room makeover I'm working on.   The big hold up at this point is a chair order.  I found the chair above at a local furniture store, but they had only one.  I have a second one ordered but it is likely to be another 6 weeks.   Tomorrow I'm off to the Nashville Flea Market in hopes of finding something special for a fairly large brick wall in this room :)

Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend!

Spring Flowers and The Breakfast Area

I love keeping a vintage blue mason jar of beautiful spring flowers on my kitchen table.  My favorite this year are the bright pink carnations, in the picture above.  I love the look and the smell.  The fragrance brings back childhood memories of going to the florist to pick up our carnation corsages for piano recitals when Pam and I were young.
I usually just run in the grocery store to grab a small bunch of flowers, and often the selection is sparse.  But I was happy to find the multi tones of pinks in this bunch.
These hydrangeas were beautiful.  Unfortunately most of the petals were laying on the kitchen table the morning after I brought them home.
Although we have a little farm in the country, growing flowers just hasn't worked that well for me.  I do fine with tomatoes and peppers, but not flowers.  How I would love to be able to walk out my door and pick beautiful fresh flowers!

Rearranging After An Empty Nest

I'm finally back with some new pictures!   :)  We now officially have an empty nest.  My daughter is a college senior and decided to get a place off campus this spring.  My son decided that at the age of 20, he wanted to experience life out on his own.   I sent them each off with their bedroom furniture and few other pieces around the house.   This  is my daughter's room post move-out.  I found the night stands and headboard at the Nashville Flea Market.  I painted them in the Annie Sloan Graphite.

This is her bathroom.  Now that the house is empty, we've actually put our little farm up for sale.  That means I cleaned out closets and started taking pictures.

When we originally built the house about 7 years ago, we tried to stay true to a farmhouse style.  We used the bead board on the walls, and pedestal sinks in all 3 full baths.  We also had them all painted in Sherwin Williams Perfect Greige about a year ago.

I'm expecting a rug delivery tomorrow.  If I like the way it looks in the porch room, I will be back soon with more pictures.
