The Kitchen Makeover

The kitchen makeover has been long overdue in my book.  When we were in the planning stages of building over 5 years ago, what seemed like a good idea at the time soon seemed quite the opposite.  I guess a lot of that can be attributed to my changing taste.  Anyway, I've had a new vision in my mind for quite some time and it is finally coming to fruition.  There is still some tweaking to do, but I guess that is what future posts are for, right?

I apologize if there are any duplicate pictures.  In the middle of my photo taking and editing, we were hit with a surprise tornado warning today here in  Middle Tennessee.  I shouldn't have been surprised since it was warm and balmy outside.  However, my daughter was on her way back to school from the airport, and my son and his girlfriend were out shopping and lunching!  Mother mode kicked in and I had to locate everyone and tell them at least 101 times to take cover and stay off the road :)

The big changes here are color, light fixtures and window treatments.
I changed out a more rustic chandelier for one with a little more glam factor.
I also got rid of the ceiling fan/light fixture over the kitchen island.  I felt like it was just too much clutter for the ceiling.

I painted the island and the table the same Perfect Greige as the walls.

The island was custom made out of antique doors and flooring.

The bead board back splash was added.

The curtains were swapped for blinds.  I was aiming for a more simple but elegant look overall

One of the more significant look changers was the new chairs from Ballard Designs.  They replaced the 2 arm chairs, and I added a yard sale bench I already had to replace 2 of the side chairs.

This is an old ceiling tile we used behind the pot filler.

  9. Wow, I adore this space. It's done so well and just my style. I love the idea of the tin for behind the pot filler. I envision curtain panels in a burlap like fabric to soften the space. Just lovely this all is.

  31. Ok, everyone else has said the same, but it bears repeating....fantastic!
Love the color on the wall. The whole thing is beautifully pulled together. What I noticed that no one mentioned is the ceiling! How was that done? It is amazing...it makes me want the contractor to come and do that here.....
Where did the wood come from etc....

    1. Thanks Nancy! The ceiling is spruce. It comes in long strips about 3 inches wide. It is nailed directly to the beams, as there is no other ceiling under it. We had a contractor do the work, and the wood came from a local lumbar supply company. There is a "pickle" finish painted on.

    1. Patty, the chalk board art is a canvas print I found at TJ Maxx. I think it was around $40 and they still had some at our local store as of last week :)

    1. Hi Erin :) The bottom part of the walls are an off white. It was the trim color we picked when building the house almost 6 years ago, and I can't remember the name of the color. Thanks for visiting!
