So Long September

I can't believe how quickly September passed.   I'm pulling out a few Halloween decorations, but  only a few.  With my daughter away at college, there's less traffic through the house, and the fellas don't really seem to notice the decor.

I love this old metal chair.  Pam and I found it at a yard sale a couple of years ago.  The old blue lantern is something my husband found through a friend.

We chatted with some very nice people at our yard sale this weekend.  I'm out in the country, so it we didn't expect a lot of traffic.  I think the best part was the cutest little boy that loved the antique desk we had.  About every 5 minutes he would ask his mom if they were getting the desk.  It was a great strategy on his part, because his mom got the desk :)

Just wanted to pop in and say Hi!  Thanks for stopping by!

The Front Porch

I've been working on sprucing up the porches.   I have a lot of porch on this house.  More than I can keep up with.  I keep adding a bit more each weekend.  We are actually in the process of converting the screened porch into an enclosed room.  I'm so excited about getting a whole new room!

First came the mums and the flag.  Last weekend we added the wreaths.  I thought these were a great deal from Sam's Club.  They were $30 each.  Of course with 2 front doors, all I could think was Cha Ching!  I looked online at  various places and then went to TJ Max trying to find something less expensive.  But, I found less was just less.  My husband kindly went back to Sam's last weekend and bought these.  They are really big - I think they are 23" or so.

This weekend I bought the little flag from Dollar General and tied to my ladder I had in the kitchen.  I stopped by our local farm stand down the street and got a couple more pumpkins.

I normally use this milk can as a side table, when sitting on my vintage metal bench drinking coffee.

Some close-ups of the wreaths.    This is really a lot of wreath.

Book Page Wrapping Paper

I just wanted to share my latest find from the dollar bins at Target.  Book page wrapping paper.

I'm thinking this could be handy for a variety of uses, outside the obvious.  Since it was only $1, I bought 3 rolls.

All Because Of A Dishtowel

This afternoon I went to Target to get a mattress pad for my daughter's dorm bed.  While I was there, I thought I'd check out the dishtowel aisle for something fallish.  I was thrilled to find this grainsack dishtowel.  It came as a set with a solid pumpkin color towel.

I knew I had to find another use for this towel.

After walking through my house draping it over this and that, I decided this stool needed a makeover.  The stool was black, but I gave it a couple of coats of Sherwin Williams Perfect Griege.  I distressed it just a little so bits of black show through. The towel says "Fairhaven Dry Goods 1918".

This is how it looked before.

Fall Decorating and Dollar Store Fillers

I just wanted to share some things I've picked up at Dollar General and Dollar Tree this week.  These inexpensive items have helped me in putting a few fall arrangements together.  The moss came from Dollar Tree, where everything is a dollar.  I'm loving these faux acorns.  I got a small bag of the acorns, pine cones and couple of fabric leaves for $3 at Dollar General.

I used the moss and acorn mix with a ceramic pumpkin we found in a SoHo shop while in New York several years ago. I paid less for it than I did the acorns.

I used more of the acorn mix and moss in these antique jars I had.  I added some red and orange fabric leaves and some little faux pumpkins and gourds that I  also got at Dollar General. Each of these were $3 or less. The small pears I found at Target on clearance this week for $2.50 for a box.

I just love the lid on this jar.
