A Big Sign

This has been on my to-do list for a very long time.   This is a top to an old wood box.  I bought it about 4 years ago at the Nashville Flea Market.  I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to use it for when I bought it.  It's been setting down by the barn ever since.  The good part is it has aged to a beautiful shade of grey.

Since I've been seeing through flea market eyes the last two weeks, everything looks like a potential project.

After using my new stencil, I sanded and waxed the wood.  I love how the wax brought out nice darker shades of grey in certain places.

I propped it up in front our fireplace on the porch so I could take pictures, but I'm thinking this would be a nice way to use it.   I'm going to take it to the Nashville Flea Market with us on Friday.  But if it doesn't sell, I  know where it's going :)

House Guests

I have a few house guests with me until next weekend.  Then they are all headed to the Nashville Flea Market with Pam and me.

The weather has  been sunny so we've spent some time outside.

Everyone has adapted very well.

In a way, I hate to see them leave.

I covered all the chairs with authentic coffee sacks.  For a change to all our painting, I used Annie Sloan dark wax to freshen up a few spots on the dining chairs, but left them with their original finish.  Pam had painted the green chair, and I followed up with a heavy brushing of the AS dark wax on it also.

A Package From France

Several months ago I ordered a few things from France, via Etsy.   One of the items was a set of vintage  seed pack labels, in French of course.   Since I've been in full flea market mode since last week, I thought I would find a way to use these.   I cut some ticking stripe card stock to go behind the label and then framed them using some frames that I had already painted and waxed.

The Etsy shop is Simply French Vintage.  I love to read about the people behind the shops.  Simply French Vintage is run by David And Jane, an English couple who live in rural France during the spring and summer months.  Ahhh.  Doesn't that just sound breath taking?

This is a cute little bird house and the pickled table it is on will also go to the Nashville Flea Market with us.  Just a reminder that we will be under Shed #2 and would love to meet anyone that can stop by and say hi!

Italian Clay Pots and Orange Mint

I wanted to share these Italian clay pots I found today.  I had trouble getting pictures that show the true color.  They are brown, instead of the reddish terracotta color of regular pots.   In fact, the traditional color pots were sold out.  It was the brown color of these that caught my attention.

I guess this picture below is closer to the true color.

This is an orange mint plant.  I've never heard of such a thing until today.  The feed store where I bought this also had apple mint.  I'm going to plant this in the ground this weekend and hope it survives.  Orange mint iced tea will be good on a hot summer day.

I think the most surprising thing to me is where I found these.

Would you believe I found them at Walmart?

Burlap At The Nashville Flea Market

We will have lots of burlap bags at the Nashville Flea Market this month.  This is a sweet potato sack.  We also have some coffee bags that are huge.  These are great to use as is for decor, or for fabric in different projects.  In addition, we will have some of the French hand painted burlap bags and some good old plain ones too.

I love the green graphics on these.

We will be under shed # 2 (across from Shed #4) on Saturday, April 28th and Sunday April 29th.   We aren't sure about Friday the 27th, but will post that information later.

If you are going to be there, please stop by and say hi!  I think we like the socializing part of the flea market best of all!

A $33 Makeover

Thanks to a good morning of yard sales, I was able to make over this area for only $33.  The picture below is before.  The white dresser was just too large and bulky for this space.

The after:  I got the large gold frame for $5, the cake stand for $5, the milk bottle for $3 and the dresser for $20.

Before

After

The dresser is pine and had been painted white, and then stripped.  Bits of white paint were remaining, which I loved.  I would have liked to have just waxed it as was, but there were a few water spots on top. And, the wood tones in my dining room were much darker than the pine.  I white washed it and then wiped that off.  Then I waxed with the Annie Sloan clear wax, and followed with a heavy brushing of the dark wax.
